Customizing the Printers portlet

You can change the Printers portlet so it shows only the printers that you work with frequently. You can sort the list of printers, and you can change the properties that are displayed.
To customize the portlet:
  1. To switch between the List View and the Graphic View, set the Device portlets on Main property in the Preferences dialog or the user property notebook.
  2. If the star (Yellow star) icon on the title bar is yellow, click it.
    The star turns gray and the portlet shows all the devices that are defined in the system.
  3. If the star (Blue star) icon in the header row of the table is blue, click it.
    The star turns gray and the portlet shows all the devices that are defined in the system.
  4. Select the devices that you want to include in your list of favorites:
    • To include a device in your favorites list, click the gray star next to that device. It turns yellow.
    • To remove a device from your favorites list, click the yellow star next to the device. It turns gray.
  5. Select the devices that you want to include in your list of favorites:
    • To include a device in your favorites list, click the gray star next to that device. It turns blue.
    • To remove a device from your favorites list, click the blue star next to the device. It turns gray.
  6. Sort the list of devices in the Grid or Icon view:
    • Drag and drop rows to arrange printers in a specific order.
    • Click on a column heading to sort the printers in ascending order according to that column. Click the column heading again to sort the printers in descending order.

    Any sorting applied to the portlet base on a column heading is removed when you arrange the printers in a specific order.
  7. Sort the list of devices:
    • Click on a column heading to sort the printers in ascending order according to that column. Click the column heading again to sort the printers in descending order.
  8. To see only your favorite devices, click the star on the title bar.
  9. To see only your favorite devices, click the star in the header row of the table.
  10. To change the properties that are displayed for each device:
    1. In the right corner of the portlet, click the Table settings (image of the Table settings icon) icon, then click Columns.
      The Edit Columns area opens.

    2. To add properties to the display, select properties in the Properties list and click Move right (image of the Move right button).
    3. To remove properties from the display, select properties in the Columns list and click Move left (image of the Move left button).
    4. To change the order of properties, select properties in the Columns list and click Move up (image of the Move up button) or Move down (image of the Move down button).
    5. To see your changes, click Apply.

      If the portlet is open in the Icon View, the changes you make determine which properties are listed next to the printer icon and their order. If the portlet is open in the Grid View, your changes add or remove columns in the Printers table, and change the order in which the columns are displayed.
    6. To reverse all the changes that you made to the displayed properties, click Restore defaults.
      The defaults are applied immediately.
    7. To close the Edit Columns area, click the Table settings (image of the Table settings icon) icon, then click Columns.
      If you clicked Apply, your changes remain in effect. If not, they are discarded.
  11. To change the properties that are displayed for each device:
    1. At the top right of the Printers portlet, click Settings (image of the settings icon) and select Manage Columns.
    2. To add columns to the table, select the check box next to the property name.
    3. To remove columns from the table, clear the check box next to property name.
    4. To change the order of table columns using the mouse, select a property name and drag it to a new location. To reorder a selected property name using the keyboard, use the controls to the right of the name to move it to a new location.
      • To move the property name up one row, click Image.
      • To move the property name to the top of the list, click Image.
      • To move the property name down one row, click Image.
      • To move the property name to the bottom of the list, click Image.
    5. To save your changes, click OK.
