AFP viewer controls

The AFP viewer has several sets of controls that let you navigate through jobs and view specific pages.

If you open the viewer to look at the contents of a print job, you navigate the job using different controls. The navigation controls you can use are based on the option you select from the Go to list:

  • Page: move through the job by page
  • Tag: move through the job by index tag (if the job has indexed)
  • String: search for text in the document
  • Document Property: search for document properties

If you open the viewer from the Jump to a Location or Print Job Again page, you see additional controls that let you select which pages to print.

Page toolbar

The Page toolbar. The text that follows describes how to use the controls.

The Page toolbar lets you move through the job page-by-page or jump directly to a specific page.

Numerical entry field Text entry field with the numeral "1" entered.

Type the number of the page that you want to display in the viewer and click Go to Page.

Display First Page Display First Page icon

Displays the first page of the job.

Display Previous Page Display Previous Page icon

Displays the page of the job that is immediately before the one that is currently displayed.

Display Next Page Display Next Page icon

Displays the page of the job that is immediately after the one that is currently displayed.

Display Last Page Display Last Page icon

Displays the last page of the job.

Rotate Clockwise Rotate clockwise icon

Rotates the view of the job ninety degrees in the clockwise direction from the current rotation.

Rotate Counterclockwise Rotate counterclockwise icon

Rotates the view of the job ninety degrees in the counterclockwise direction from the current rotation.

Zoom out Zoom out icon

Decreases the size of the displayed page to a preset percentage, depending on the number of times you click the button. The percentages are: 8.33, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 125, 150, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 2400, 3200, 6400.

Changes the size of the displayed page according to a value that you select from a list or type in the field. You can select a percentage or a page fit option.
  • Actual size displays the page at 100% magnification.
  • Fit page adjusts the magnification so that the page fills the window horizontally and vertically.
  • Fit width adjusts the magnification so that the page fills the window horizontally.
  • Fit visible adjusts the magnification so that the text and images fit the width of the window.

Zoom in Zoom in icon

Increases the size of the displayed page to a preset percentage, depending on the number of times you click the button. The percentages are: 8.33, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 125, 150, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 2400, 3200, 6400.

Tag toolbar

The Tag toolbar at the top of the AFP viewer page. The text that follows describes how to use the controls.

  • If the Tag choice is missing from the Go to list and the AFP Support feature is installed, the workflow that processed the job did not include the EnableRepositioning step.

The Tag toolbar lets you do these actions:

Lets you specify how to navigate through the document: by selecting a sheet number in the job, or by selecting a value for one of the index tags.

Go to First Tag Value Go to First Tag Value icon

Displays the first page on the first sheet of the job. In an indexed job, displays the page that contains the first value in the Value list for the selected index tag.

Go to Previous Tag Value Go to Previous Tag Value icon

Displays the page that is immediately before the one that is currently displayed. In an indexed job, displays the page that contains the index tag value that is immediately before the one that is currently displayed.

Lets you select the sheet in the job that you want to view, or select a different value for the index tag. The Value list displays up to 15 tag values. To see more tag values, select the Next and Previous options in the list.

You can also type text in the field instead of choosing from the list, then click Display First Page with Selected Tag Value Display First Page with Selected Tag Value icon to search for and display the next page that contains that tag value.

Displays the page that contains the tag value you selected in the Value list.

Go to Next Tag Value Go to Next Tag Value icon

Displays the page of the job that is immediately after the one that is currently displayed. In an indexed job, displays the page that contains the index tag value that is immediately after the one that is currently displayed.

Go to Last Tag Value Go to Last Tag Value icon

Displays the last page of the job. In an indexed job, displays the page that contains the last value in the Value list for the selected index tag.

Rotate Clockwise Rotate clockwise icon

Rotates the view of the job ninety degrees in the clockwise direction from the current rotation.

Rotate Counterclockwise Rotate counterclockwise icon

Rotates the view of the job ninety degrees in the counterclockwise direction from the current rotation.

Zoom out Zoom out icon

Decreases the size of the displayed page to a preset percentage, depending on the number of times you click the button. The percentages are: 8.33, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 125, 150, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 2400, 3200, 6400.

String toolbar

The String toolbar at the top of the viewer page. The text that follows describes how to use the controls.

The String toolbar lets you search the job for a page containing specific text and rotate the view of the job.

  • If the job you are viewing was transformed into AFP from another data stream, the search might not find strings of text that you can see on the page because they are stored as image data instead of text.

Find

Type the term that you want to search for in the job.

Case-sensitive Case-sensitive icon

Select this option to find only text that matches the exact case that you typed in the Find field. For example, if you type john doe in the Find field and select Case-sensitive, the search shows the first occurrence of john doe, but skips any occurrences of John Doe.

Search Overlays and Page Segments Search Overlays and Page Segments icon

Select this option to search text contained in AFP overlays and page segments in addition to the text contained in the print data. If you search for a term that you can see on a page with this option turned off and the term is not found, the text might be stored in an overlay or page segment. Select this option and search again.

Find Previous Find Previous icon

Searches for the previous occurrence of the search term, which might be on a page before the page that is currently displayed.

Find Next Find Next icon

Searches for the next occurrence of the search term, which might be on a page after the page that is currently displayed.

Cancel Cancel search icon

Cancels the search that is currently in process. This button is enabled only when the viewer is actively searching.

Property toolbar

The Document Property toolbar. The text that follows describes how to use the controls.

The Document Property toolbar lets you search the job using the value of a document property. To search an AFP file using document properties, you must install the AFP Support feature. If the Document Property choice is missing from the Go to list, check the workflow that processed the job to make sure it included a step based on the IdentifyDocuments step template.

Document Property List

You use this control to select the document property that you want to search. You can click the down-arrow icon to view and select a document property from the alphabetized list of all document properties in the job. If your job has more document properties than are displayed in the list, type any part of the name of the document property. As you type, the list of document properties is narrowed to those that contain the text you type.

Find Previous Find Previous Property icon

Click the Find Previous arrow to display the previous page in the job that contains the document property value you selected.

Select a Value

Once you select a document property, the viewer populates this list with all of the values in the job for that document property. You can click the down-arrow icon and select a specific value. If your job has more values than are displayed in the list, type in any part of the name of the document property value. The list of document property values is narrowed only to those that contain the text you type. When you select a value from the list, the viewer displays the first page of the job that contains that document property value.

Click the Find Next arrow to display the next page in the job that contains the document property value you selected.

Additional controls for Jump to a Location

If you have the AFP Support feature installed, you can view an AFP job from the Jump to a Location page. The method you use to open the viewer from the Jump to a Location page determines which controls you see.

  • If you select Resume printing at page and click View, you see the Resume printing at page field and the Select button above the viewer. Click Select to fill in the Resume printing at page field with the number of the page that is currently displayed in the viewer, or type a page number in the Resume printing at page field.
  • If you select Resume printing at group and click Select, you see a table above the viewer:
    1. Select a tag and a value on the toolbar.
    2. Click Select to fill in the tag and group information of the page that is currently displayed in the viewer.

Additional controls for Print Job Again

The method you use to open the viewer from the Print Job Again page determines which controls you see:

  • If you select Pages and click View, you see the Pages field and the Add button above the viewer. Click Add to fill in the Pages field with the number of the page that is currently displayed in the viewer. You can select more than one page to be reprinted. If you display a different page and click Add again, the new page is added to the existing value to create a list.

    • You can also type a page number or a page range in the Pages field. Use a dash to indicate a page range and separate all page numbers and ranges with commas. To print from a specific page through the end of the job, use the letter n to represent the last page of the job. For example, to print a selection of pages from a 500 page job, enter: 3,27,150-165,302-428,491-n.
  • If you select Groups and click Select, you see a table above the viewer:
    1. Select a tag and a value on the toolbar.
    2. Click Add to fill in the tag and group information of the page that is currently displayed in the viewer.
    3. To remove a group from the list of groups to be reprinted, select the group and click Remove.

If you open the viewer to look at the contents of a print job, you navigate the job using different controls. The navigation controls you can use are based on the option you select from the Go to list:

  • Page: move through the job by page
  • String: search for text in the document
  • Document Property: search for document properties

If you open the viewer from the Print Job Again page, you see additional controls that let you select which pages to print.

Zooming and Rotating

The right side of the navigation toolbar provides controls you can use to zoom in, zoom out, and rotate the current page.

Navigating through jobs

The controls on the left side of the toolbar change based on the value that you choose for the Go to field.

Page

Property

The Property toolbar lets you search the job using the value of a document property or an index tag. To search an AFP file using document properties, you must install the AFP Support feature.

Property list A list box containing an alphabetical list of existing properties.

You use this control to select the document property or index tag that you want to search. You can click the down-arrow icon to view and select a document property from the alphabetized list of all document properties in the job. You can also type any part of the name of the document property. As you type, the list of document properties is narrowed to those that contain the text you type.

Display first page Display first page icon

Displays the first page of the job that contains the document property or index tag value you selected.

Find previous Find previous property icon

Click the Find previous arrow to display the previous page in the job that contains the document property or index tag value you selected.
