Components

The major components of the Infoprint 4000 and Infoprint 4100 Advanced Function Duplex Printing System are a pair of printers, hereafter referred to as a Duplex Printing System.

A Duplex Printing System can be used for simplex and duplex printing applications.

In this publication the first printer is called Printer 1, and the second printer is called Printer 2.

Duplex models include a buffer/flipper unit and an urge unit.

Buffer/Flipper Unit

The buffer/flipper unit guides the paper path from the first printer to the second printer in a dual-printer configuration. The unit allows the forms to take the following paths from the first printer to the second printer:

The unit turns the forms over (flips) so the other side of the forms can be printed by the second printer. Because of the high speed with which forms travel through Printer 1, a "tall" buffer/flipper unit is used to aid in cooling the paper before it enters Printer 2 in either the straight or left/right path configuration. For the "H" configuration, a "tall" buffer/flipper unit can be ordered in place of the shorter unit.

Table 3 shows the buffer/flipper units that are provided for supported configurations in a duplex system. You may choose to substitute a different buffer/flipper unit, depending on the weight of the forms you use and the typical coverage on your print jobs. For example, a tall buffer/flipper unit might be required if you typically run heavy forms with high coverage. The longer paper path through the tall buffer/flipper allows more time for cooling between Printer 1 and Printer 2.

Urge Unit

The urge unit assists in feeding forms from the buffer/flipper unit under the printer into the tractor-feed area of the printer. This power-driven roller assembly is on the floor in the forms input area of Printer 2. The continuous forms are threaded through the unit.

Note:
If an urge unit is supplied with any preprocessing equipment, the vendor supplied urge unit is installed on Printer 1.

Note - 'H' Configuration:
The IBM two-roll urge unit flipper must be ordered with the printers if you are anticipating using the 'H' floor layout on Models ID3/4 or ID5/6. A web drive source (or urge unit) may be required between printer Models HD3/4 depending on the distance between printers.

Preprocessing/Postprocessing Interfaces

Preprocessing/post processing device interfaces allow additional input and output capabilities beyond the standard forms input source and output stacker in the system printers.

Two preprocessing/postprocessing device interfaces (one in each printer) are provided. Additional interfaces can be purchased.
