Splicing tractorless forms

Follow this procedure when you need to splice tractorless forms.

  1. Select Stop on the printer operator panel or on the Main touchscreen panel for the affected printer.
    Note:
    Do not switch power to the printer off during this process.
  2. Open the center front and center top covers of the printer.

  3. Locate a new supply of forms (either roll-feed or fan fold). Ensure that the new forms are exactly the same kind as the forms that are already loaded.
  4. Make the new supply of forms available in the forms input area.
  5. Locate a fresh roll of splicing tape.
  6. Move the Splice Lever down to turn on the splicing table vacuum. You see the following message: 0782 SPLICE LEVER DOWN
    Note:
    When the splicing table vacuum is on, you should hear a hissing sound and feel suction if you put your finger on the tape slot .
  7. If you are using tractorless forms overlap the two ends of the forms you are joining.
  8. Cut down the middle of the forms with a pair of scissors.
  9. Remove the excess paper and join the ends of the forms.
  10. Press firmly on the forms and tape along the tape slot. Ensure that the print surfaces of both forms are securely attached to the splicing tape.
  11. Move the Splice Lever to the forms feed position to turn off the splicing table vacuum.

  12. Ensure that the splicing table is clear of debris.
  13. Ensure that the new forms are correctly loaded. They should pass from the input area and over the forms guides on the left side of the splicing table.
  14. To advance the spliced area through the transfer station, press NPRO on the printer operator panel of the affected printer as many times as necessary until you see the splice on the upper tractors.

  15. Check the forms alignment at the lower tractors. See Checking forms alignment.
  16. Close the center front and center top covers of the printer.
  17. Select Start on the printer operator panel or on the Main touchscreen panel for the affected printer.
    CAUTION:
    <85>For printers with microcode levels, version 11.6.128 and higher, both printers and attached pre and postprocessing equipment can be started from the main panel of the printer console and the printer operator panels. Visually assure that no other personnel are working on the system before starting the system.
