Loading pre-printed barcode forms

When you load forms for simplex or duplex printing, whether the forms are fan fold (box) forms or continuous roll forms, the edge with the pre-printed barcode must be facing up and toward the front of the printer, that is, the edge closest to you as you load the forms.

Ensure that the forms are threaded between the top paper guide (2) and the bottom paper guide (1).

Barcode Structure

The form identification barcode contains 23 segments (bars), 16 of which represent the form identifier. The first five segments are trigger marks (three bars), a start mark, and a header space. The last two segments are a trailer space and a stop mark.

Numeric and Alphanumeric Codes

The 16 segments that are used to represent the form identification code have binary values assigned to them.

Numeric (decimal) identification codes (1 to 65,535) can be translated directly into the binary version.

Alphanumeric identification codes are hexadecimal. They are restricted to numbers 0 through 9 and alphabetic characters A through F. An alphanumeric code is restricted to four characters. Each character represents a hexadecimal character of 0 (zero) through F (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F). These four characters are translated into the 16 binary segments.

Using both numeric and alphanumeric form identification codes when defining forms can cause problems because a decimal and a hexadecimal code can translate into the same binary code.

It would be better to use either decimal or hexadecimal identification codes exclusively.

Hexadecimal Values

To create hexadecimal characters from 0 to F, four bits are available to use in combination to give the desired value. The bits have a value of 1, 2, 4, and 8, reading them from right to left. Table 15 gives the bit combination for each hexadecimal value.

Barcode Size and Placement

The barcode must conform to the size and placement shown in Figure 116. The following criteria must be followed:
